Gifted Education Certificate

In addition to earning a Master of Arts in Teaching degree, candidates have the opportunity to earn a Certificate in Gifted Education. The certificate program is designed to help you develop the specialized knowledge and skills needed to recognize and respond to individual differences among gifted and talented students and to address the varying needs, interests and abilities of all students.

This 13-unit certificate requires the completion of two additional 3-unit electives and a 3-unit multi-media literacy course. Additionally, the Capstone courses will be tailored to address the needs of gifted and talented students.

Designed by Dr. Sandra Kaplan, renowned leader in Gifted Education, the certificate will help candidates understand how to:

  • Work with gifted and talented students to provide them with the challenges and motivation to achieve high academic and learning goals.
  • Recognize and respond to individual differences among students.
  • Acquire the specialized skills to construct a differentiated curriculum.
  • Develop a repertoire of pedagogical practices that can be applied to all learners within the same classroom.
