This high-quality program has helped individuals all over the world achieve their dreams of becoming “transformative teachers” while completing most of the coursework from the comfort of their homes. USC Rossier School of Education professors are experts in their fields, and staff from the program can even set you up with local guided practice (similar to student teaching) opportunities, a requirement for most teaching certificates.

USC Coursework and Concentrations

Whether you have a degree in mathematics or english, a USC admissions counselor will review your transcripts and state certification requirements to set up the best program to meet your individual needs. USC Rossier Online offers a unique program that is a combination of rigorous self-paced coursework, live classroom sessions during which you can connect with peers and professors, and guided practice, in which USC staff will set up real field experiences with local school districts under the supervision of professors and cooperating teachers. In addition to working towards state certification, you will complete a Master’s in Teaching degree, making you a highly qualified and attractive candidate to the potential districts where you wish to work.

Besides delivering courses taught by experienced and innovative educators, USC offers concentrations in a number of areas.  These include elementary education, English, math, science, social studies, special education, gifted education and TESOL. They also offer school leadership programs for prospective administrators.

Earning a State Certificate

Since USC is based in California, completion of the MAT program will enable you to be recommended for a California teaching credential if you are a California resident. However, if you do not live in California or do not wish to work in California, a credentialing specialist will assist you in applying for state reciprocity with a California certificate or in applying directly to your state’s department of education for certification.
