Bilingual Authorization for Spanish
The Bilingual, Cross Cultural, Language and Academic Development (BCLAD) Authorization for Spanish can be added to your existing California credential and authorizes educators to teach the subject area of their credential in Spanish. By obtaining this certificate, you have the option to teach in either bilingual settings or in English-dominant settings with Spanish language learners, and support Spanish-speaking students who are learning in English.
This authorization is available as an add-on to students in our Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) and Teaching Credential program, and it requires the completion of 3 additional units coursework. Candidates must already be English-Spanish bilingual to be eligible to apply.
Program of Study
During Guided Practice, candidates must also conduct a number of lessons in Spanish to meet the required competencies as credential candidates.
Due to California state credential regulatory standards, it is important to check your eligibility for the BCLAD Authorization before you begin the process.
