“Optimized for the Online Environment” — Education Next on USC Rossier Online
USC Rossier Online is featured in the Summer 2013 issue of Education Next, a journal dedicated to school reform.
The article, “Disrupting Teacher Education,” examines USC Rossier Online within the context of the K-12 school reform. Author Meredith Liu acknowledges that while teacher quality is a foremost factor in student achievement, most top-tier schools of education are able to only produce a small fraction of the teachers needed in the United States. The Rossier School of Education has been able to overcome that constraint with USC Rossier Online, which has expanded the school’s degree candidates from 100 in 2008 to 2,200 in 2010. In describing the technology behind the program, Liu writes that it is “optimized for the online environment,” and she comments that, beyond disrupting traditional teacher education, USC Rossier Online is poised to attract greater talent to the teaching profession, “welcome news for the nation’s students.”
