Contexts for Educational Equity, Access, and Agency

The context of a learning environment distinguishes and differentiates each student, based upon prior social, cultural and academic experiences. That teachers can identify how environment, pedagogy, curriculum and instructional choices can be aligned with culture, gender and gender orientation, race, ability, learning differences and language to maximize that learning is the goal of this course.
This course explores the influences of environment, teachers, learning ability and differences, students, culture, language, race and socioeconomic class related to student learning and obstacles to equal access to learning. All topics are connected across courses and will be introduced in Term 1 and returned to in Terms 2 and 3 for building greater depth of content knowledge and application in the classroom setting.
