The USC Rossier School of Education, ranked #15 among graduate schools of education by U.S. News & World Report, is one of the world’s premier centers for graduate study in urban education. For over 100 years, we have been preparing educational leaders to be change agents, providing them with the skills, knowledge, and determination to create environments in which all students can learn.

The mission of the USC Rossier School of Education is to strengthen urban education locally, nationally, and globally. We do not define “urban” geographically, but rather through the characteristics of racial and ethnic, linguistic and cultural diversity, as well as the challenges of poverty, density, mobility and immigration that can be applied to all high-need educational environments. In doing so, we prepare the finest educators to succeed in any and all educational circumstances.

In an effort to address the growing need for highly prepared and effective teachers, we carefully and strategically rethought the curriculum of our long-standing, highly regarded Master of Arts in Teaching program and recently developed a Master’s of Education in Advanced Instruction program. We looked at the issues teachers are currently dealing with in today’s classrooms and had an honest discussion about how to address these problems of practice. The results are programs designed and shaped to integrate theory effectively with classroom practice in the 21st century. And the programs are available to students both on-campus and online to impact classrooms locally, nationally, and globally.
